Major silver ore shipment arrives in Dawson City

Silver ore valued at more than $50,000,000 reached Dawson today. It was the first 230 tons from the Keno Hill Camp, which has been producing since last winter in promising style. There is more waiting at Mayo Landing, and when the 2500 tons have been brought in and dispatched to the smelters via St. Michaels and the Behring Sea, it is expected that the winter output will realize nearly $750,000.

A new find at Keno is reported, and it is said to be of the richest ore yet found there. The ore is said to be tetrahedrite and it is located at timber line near the west end of Keno Hill. Prospectors are coming into the district from various parts of the Yukon and there is much staking under way. Several large companies are entering the field and planning immediate development.

Hundreds of tons of supplies, building material and mining equipment are accumulating at Whitehorse for shipment to Mayo direct. There is much activity at Keno City. Cabins, business buildings and roadhouses are under construction.

The Yukon Gold Company and the White Pass Steamer Company are erecting wharves and warehouses at Mayo Landing. Other warehouses also will be built.

Lake Lebarge is expected to be open by Monday next.
