The pioneers of the air are celebrating

August 20, 1920

“By Telegraph to the Editor of THE NEW YORK TIMES: DAWSON, Yukon, Aug. 17.

Airplanes 2 and 4 of the New York-Nome expedition arrived at Dawson 6:15 o’clock this afternoon, bringing a copy of THE NEW YORK TIMES of July 15 to Dawson, the first newspaper ever conveyed directly from the American metropolis to the Klondike’s famous old gold fields and new silver fields, and marking an epoch in the circulation of a daily paper. The actual traveling time was 47 hours and 48 minutes.

The two other airplanes will be here tomorrow morning, then all will proceed together to Nome.

Today the airplanes arrived in the midst of the celebration of the twenty-fourth anniversary of the discovery of the Klondike gold fields. The pioneers of the air and the trails are celebrating jointly tonight.

The Dawson Daily News greets America’s great daily.

C. R. SETTLEMIER, Editor.”
