Hadestown Teen, performed by the Yukon Theatre for Young People, will open at 7:00 this evening at the Yukon Arts Centre. All the seasoned performers are less than 20 years old.
The full-length teen edition of Anaïs Mitchell’s haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favour of his one true love, Eurydice.
The production is a winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Orchestrations.
It has won four 2019 Drama Desk Awards, six 2019 Outer Critics Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical, and won a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
Yukon Theatre for Young People’s presentation of Hadestown Teen is the first time in Canada that this show will be performed with amateur licensing rights. It will run until Friday.
