Waterfront trolley rides again!

It’s back!

The MacBride Waterfront Trolley will restart operations in Whitehorse at 11 a.m. Friday.

The museum made the announcement on social media Wednesday.

“The trolley will travel from the Roundhouse to Rotary Park with stops at the White Pass building and the Yukon Visitor Centre and then return to the Roundhouse,” the museum stated.

A round trip is approximately 30 minutes. Staff will provide  passengers with an interpretative overview of waterfront history during their ride.

The trolley will run Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the rest of June. Tickets are $3, and will be available at the museum’s front desk or aboard the trolley with cash or Square payments on board.

The trolley will operate from Tuesdays to Friday only in July and August when the City of Whitehorse will be hosting a Riverfront Town Square on Saturdays in the vicinity of the Roundhouse.

The Yukon government’s funding to the museum to operate the trolley was eliminated in 2018 due to what cabinet minister Richard Mostyn said at the time were financial constraints and infrastructure concerns.

Before some sections of track were removed in recent years, the trolley used to travel all the way to the Quartz Road area across from the Walmart store. It was painted yellow and white at that point, as opposed to its current red-and-white hues.

Museum director Patricia Cunning could not be reached for comment on the current funding arrangements for the trolley’s resurrection.
