Suspect opted to go jump in the lake

This suspect was all wet – literally.

Watson Lake RCMP officers had a hot pursuit of a different kind recently. You might even call it fluid.

At approximately 4 p.m. last Thursday, Watson Lake RCMP were investigating a call for police service when they spotted Calvin John Dickson Junior (Jr.).

“Police attempted to arrest him, as he was at large on a release order for 23 outstanding charges, including forcible confinement, assault, criminal harassment and utter threats,” police said Friday afternoon.

Dickson also had an outstanding unendorsed warrant for arrest for two counts of the alleged failure to comply with a release order, and assault.

The 30-year-old man ran from officers and into a nearby lake, from which he refused to emerge for more than an hour, police said.

“Police, concerned with Mr. Dickson Jr.’s well-being, continued to verbally encourage Mr. Dickson Jr. to exit the lake. While continuing to listen and communicate with Dickson Jr., police launched a police boat into the lake and safely took him into custody.”

Dickson was held for a court appearance on Friday, with additional charges of two counts of failure to comply with a release order and resisting arrest.
