Latest power failure plagued Marsh Lake area

ATCO Energy Yukon’s bad month continued over the weekend – this time with an outage at Marsh Lake.

In a social media post Saturday, the company stated, “ATCO Electric Yukon is aware of an outage currently affecting parts of Judas Creek Subdivision and crews have been dispatched.”

Within two hours, the company said it had rectified the situation.

“Power has been restored to all customers affected by the outage in Judas Creek; the Fire Hall and Community Centre are still without power. If you are still experiencing an issue, please call 867-633-7000 to report.”

There was one more update provided after that by ATCO.

“Power has been restored to Marsh Lake Community Centre, Fire Hall and Water Station.”

An ATCO representative told The Yukon Star late this morning that ‘foreign interference with a disconnect switch caused the structure to burn the top off which caused the power outage.

“The line was isolated and all but three customers were back on by 8:14 a.m. with the pole replaced Sunday morning. The three customers were isolated for the purpose of repairs (Marsh Lake volunteer fire department service, community centre and water pump station) and were reconnected by (1 p.m.).”

From July 5-7, residents in Whitehorse and surrounding areas were hit by three power failures in three days. Only one of those outages has had an explanation provided.
