Community Services Minister Richard Mostyn has honoured an Alberta firefighter who perished last Saturday while fighting the huge blaze near Jasper, Alta.
A tree fell on the man, who was in his 20s. Colleagues tried to assist him, to no avail.
“The Government of Yukon and Wildland Fire Management extend their heartfelt condolences to Alberta after the death of an Alberta Wildfire crew member in Jasper on August 3,” Mostyn said today.
“In honour of his service, flags at Yukon Wildland Fire Management have been set to half-mast. Our thoughts are with his colleagues and loved ones during this difficult time.
“On behalf of all Yukoners, we thank all those who are fighting wildfires in Jasper and across Canada this summer. We are grateful for the difficult and dangerous work you do to protect our friends, families and communities.”
