With another school year just around the corner, the Yukon government is looking for families’ input on how they can optimize school bus routes more efficiently.
The existing routes have been made public on the government’s website.
Families who registered for buses before June 14 should receive an email with their assigned bus route during the last week. They can contact student.transportation@yukon.ca or phone 667-5172 if they didn’t receive the email.
“Applications submitted after the June 14 deadline will be reviewed and assigned to routes based on available space,” the government said in a statement Tuesday.
“These late registrations are now being processed, and applicants can expect an email with more information in the coming weeks.”
Families are advised to check one more time before the first day of school to confirm pick-up and drop-off locations and times, in case any changes have been made at the last minute.
Many schools in Whitehorse will reopen next Tuesday. Students in Beaver Creek have been in class for a couple of weeks.
Families will also receive an email if there are any route changes.
A school bus tag will be provided by the bus drivers during the first week of school, and will include their school bus number.
“Special requests, such as riding the bus to somewhere other than a child’s home address, are considered at the start of the new school year. Families will hear back about special requests by September 4, 2024,” the government said.
The city’s high school students can register for a Whitehorse Transit bus instead of a school bus, but cannot register for both.
Families in rural areas will need to contact their school directly for options.
