A 16-lot country residential subdivision near the Lobird Trailer Park will become a reality.
Before members of city council began their annual summer break, council approved an Official Community Plan (OCP) amendment for the subdivision area land (200 Lobird Rd.) by a six-to-one vote.
This allows the company developing the lots to proceed with a master plan for the residential development area. No lots have been created at this point, and the zoning has not changed.
“This will not have a significant impact on the overall number of lots,” said Coun. Kirk Cameron. “It would provide our industry and residents with an opportunity that they desire, which is country residential.”
However, Coun. Dan Boyd believes this is a “short-term bad planning decision” that could potentially increase the city’s operational costs for the area.
The plan was presented to council members earlier this year. It showed that the new lots will not connect to the city’s water or sewer lines.
Road access to the area is required, and the developer will construct the road and connect it to the city’s road system.
A precise timeline for that work and the actual availability of the lots to market isn’t yet clear.
Since the proposal presented a conflict with the city’s OCP, the developer had to seek an amendment to it.
