A student appeared before Whitehorse council last Monday evening to ask it to consider making some changes to the transit system.
Juan Jordan, who is an exchange student, told the council members the current system isn’t the most convenient for students riding to the various high schools, especially in the Riverdale area.
He said it can take him up to an hour to get to school – and 90 minutes to return home.
He said he had been exchanging emails with Jason Bradshaw, the transit system’s manager, over the past few weeks.
In those emails, Jordan said Bradshaw was interested in his comments, but also suggested the yellow school bus system as an alternative.
Jordan said that would only serve the needs of students traveling directly to school and back. Students not opting for school buses are provided with free transit passes in exchange, which offer more flexibility.
He also said the transit system’s update schedules aren’t consistently available on Google Maps – which causes confusion. It’s been that way for about a year, Jordan added.
That’s something the city is working on correcting, he was told.
