Toronto man died in Dempster Highway accident

The Yukon Coroner’s Service has identified the Ontario motorcyclist killed last Friday morning in an accident on the Dempster Highway.

He was Gregory James Thompson, a 58-year-old Toronto resident.

“On June 14, around 11 a.m., a collision occurred between a motorcyclist and a vehicle at KM 198 on the Dempster Highway. The motorcyclist was deceased when RCMP and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene,” a statement from the coroner reads.

“A group of 19 motorcycles and an accompanying support vehicle were travelling south to Dawson from Eagle Plains after having travelled as far as the Arctic Circle the previous day.

“A motorcyclist lost control on the gravel and the motorcycle fell onto its left side in the lane with northbound traffic. A northbound vehicle in the oncoming lane struck the motorcyclist.”

Thompson had flown from Toronto to meet the group in Whitehorse on June 8.
