A 24-year-old Ontario man is facing charges after what appears to be a standoff with police Sunday in Porter Creek.
“On June 30 at approximately 8:30 a.m., police received a complaint about a public safety incident occurring in the Porter Creek area,” Whitehorse RCMP said at lunchtime today.
“Whitehorse detachment officers contained the scene and asked residents to leave the apartment building for their safety. The Critical Incident Program was activated and the situation was resolved in a safe manner.”
The precise location was not not named by police.
Jaidyn Young, a 24-year-old-male from Ontario, was arrested and charged with:
- pointing a firearm;
- possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;
- weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization; and
- the careless use of a firearm.
“As the investigation continues, further criminal charges may result, and Mr. Young has been held in custody for a court appearance (today). Whitehorse RCMP wishes to thank the nearby residents for their cooperation during this incident.”
