Conditions were good for the 2024 Yukon Golf Championships this past weekend, and the play was “clubbin”.
The Championships took place at Mountain View Golf Club July 6-7.
The entries were limited to the first 80 golfers registered.
Michael Watts was one of the golfers out Saturday.
“It’s fun out here,” he said. “Some holes are good, some holes are bad, but it’s good to be out.”
Watts won the third flight of the tournament three years ago.
Shane McHugh, in a group with Watts, said “it’s been a bit of a battle but it’s been good. Good group to play with.”
Wayne Crowe, a tournament veteran, was in another group.
“I played absolutely terrible and had a great time,” he joked at the end of his round.
When asked what he was looking to improve on, Crowe replied, “I don’t think I can do anything but improve.”
Crowe, who could have easily won a Best Attitude award, added, “This is a great game and you just have to learn to have fun when you’re not having fun.”
A number of juniors were on the course, including Adam Ireland, 16.
“It went all right. Didn’t shoot as well as I would have liked. But it was fun.”
Alayna Mortimer, 13, said her round went “pretty good.”
Treytin Frizzel was the third member of the group.
“I shot better than I usually do.”
Sawyer Tessier, 17, won the junior championship.
Jase Johnstone and Brayden Baldwin, also 17, were in a group with Tessier.
Baldwin, in his first Yukon Championships, said, “It’d be better if I was hitting the ball better.”
Tessier said he has aspirations of becoming a pro golfer on the PGA tour.
He added he only started playing the sport seriously a couple of years ago.
The men’s champion was Philip Isabelle.
Nicole Baldwin was the women’s champion.
The Super Senior champion was Ken Taylor.
Lester Balsillie took the Senior Men’s title.
