RCMP search Department of Economic Development offices

The Yukon government’s Department of Economic Development premises were searched by the Whitehorse RCMP on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation.

When contacted this morning by The Yukon Star, the RCMP would only provide a prepared statement.

“RCMP can confirm they executed a search warrant for information held at the Yukon government Department of Economic Development. As this investigation is ongoing, no further details about the investigation will be provided at this time,” police said.

Jordan Owens, the director of communications for the Yukon cabinet, was equally vague.

“We cannot comment on RCMP investigations. Please reach out to the RCMP for more information,” she told The Yukon Star.

The New Democrats declined to comment on the situation, saying there wasn’t enough information available to offer an informed opinion.

Likewise, the Yukon Party said there was not enough information about the police search to comment.

The Yukon Employees’ Union said it had no knowledge of the situation, and as far as it’s aware, no members were involved.
