The Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is looking to build a four-plex at 45 McCandless Cres. in the McIntyre subdivision.
The structure would include dedicated office space for an emergency caregiver program and temporary short-term accommodations for personnel handling child protection matters.
The land is now classified as undeveloped following the demolition of a one-storey residence the KDFN had owned.
Members of city council heard Monday evening the zoning of the lot is residential single-detached on First Nation Settlement Land. The KDFN has “exercised its zoning powers to regulate development” on this land, city administration has reported.
The city is awaiting the responses at a public input session on the matter set for the next council meeting on Aug. 12.
An email has been sent to both the Yukon government, KDFN, and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council.
Council will hear a report from that session on Aug. 20, and a decision on the lot will be made on Aug. 26.
Coun. Kirk Cameron raised concerns about whether city administration has reviewed other documents the KDFN may have available for the city to consider.
Kinden Kosick is the co-ordinator for the city’s department of subdivision and lands. For a proposed development like this, Kosick said, there wasn’t a lot of material included in the planning documents outside of the planning work staff have done for McIntyre General Reserve development.
