Police investigate fatal ATV crash in Watson Lake

The RCMP in Watson Lake are investigating an accident in Watson Lake that claimed one life on Saturday morning.

At 6:56 a.m., police responded to a report of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash.

“The single ATV crash occurred in the sand pit by the skate park,” police said.

“Watson Lake RCMP, Watson Lake Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services attended. A driver and a passenger were located at the scene. One person, believed to have been the driver, has passed away from their injuries.”

The deceased’s name was not released.

The Yukon Coroner’s Service is also involved in the investigation.

The passenger was taken to the Watson Lake Community Hospital for treatment.

Neither of the two people involved was wearing a helmet. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, police said.

“Watson Lake RCMP continue to investigate this matter and offer their heartfelt sympathies to the family,” police added.
