One arrest following Riverdale incident

Whitehorse RCMP officers had parts of Riverdale cordoned off late Sunday afternoon, and one person was arrested after an incident.

Approximately 10 police vehicles with a mix of RCMP officers were seen at the Hobah apartment on Teslin Road.

Numerous residents were seen being removed from the building. The operation ended with residents being safe to return home at 8:20 p.m.

At the time, a news release said there was no immediate danger to the public in the area. Police asked the public not to share incident details/locations on social media by the police.

“I came back at four o’clock to get into my building with some friends who were going to make dinner, and the police said I couldn’t enter the building,” Scott Henderson, a resident of the building, told The Yukon Star.

He also mentioned that one of the officers had gone inside the building with a loudspeaker.

“I don’t know who they’re trying to communicate with,” Henderson said. The two-year resident of the building said he found the situation “bizarre.

“Such things have never happened to me in this building. It was a very quiet building, and the people were good, mostly working people,” said Henderson.

No further details had been released by police as of early this afternoon.
