With the onset of warmer, dry weather, there are new fires in the territory, Yukon Wildland Fire Management officials reported today.
“Three new lightning-caused wildfires were reported in the Dawson district yesterday,” they said.
“Two of those, DA006 near the Top of the World Highway and DA008 near Mt. Burnham, are 0.01-hectare spot fires that are receiving a full response. They do not currently threaten any people, properties or infrastructure.”
Spokesperson Mike Fancie added, “New wildfires are likely to start due to widespread lightning risk and dry forest conditions.”
Members of the public are urged to report wildfires by calling 1-888-798-3473 and checking government sources like the Wildfire Hub for updates.
