Little change on status of highways

The state of regional highways didn’t change much over the weekend.

Just after noon today, the Yukon Department of Highways and Public Works posted the latest update on the South Klondike Highway.

The road has been at least partially closed for a week following a massive landslide just past the Conrad Campground.

In the update, the department says “check out the progress we have made over the past few days! Our crews have been working hard to clear the debris from the rockslide on the South Klondike Highway.

“The highway remains open to single-lane, piloted traffic from 7 am to 8 pm. We’re making steady progress and are committed to safely reopening it to double-lane traffic as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Alaska Highway near Toad River, B.C. is also still open to alternating traffic, with another update scheduled for Tuesday.

The North Klondike Highway near Mayo has seen some slowdowns due to a resurgent forest fire near the Haldane Lakes.

Traffic is currently moving, but delays or new closures are still possible.
