Kimmirut shooting suspect faces three charges

NUNAVUT (LJI) – A 22-year-old Kimmirut man is facing two counts of attempted murder and one count of assault following a shooting incident on July 15.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a person shooting a firearm from a residence. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect allegedly began shooting at officers, striking a police vehicle. The suspect then fled on an all-terrain vehicle and was later apprehended after being restrained by local residents. By 11 p.m., the suspect was arrested and put in jail.

Nathan Padluq, the accused, was scheduled for a remand hearing on July 17.

“The RCMP would like to thank the community of Kimmirut for their cooperation and assistance during this incident,” read a news release from RCMP V Division. “Because of your assistance, the incident was resolved without any injuries to police and the public.”
