Hawks crown Kings in Whitehorse Cricket League tourney final

The Hawks sunk their talons into the Kings in recent June Cricket League tournament action.

The Hawks triumphed over the Kings 69 – two wickets (outs), in 10 overs (six balls bowled) – to 68 – 10 wickets in 14.3 overs.

The final took place at Christ the King Elementary School in Whitehorse on June 23.

The Kings’ run total, not surprisingly, did them in, as the Hawks easily surpassed the Kings’ low total.

In fact, the Kings got two wickets on the first four balls thrown at them, pretty well putting them in behind the eight ball immediately, although they had eight wickets left to do some damage.

Hawks Captain Amanpreet Brar said it was a tough game at first, but they figured it out.

Brar said team spirit was the key to their victory.

“I want to thank all my guys. They played really well. They just gave me full support.”

Brar figured he scored about 45 runs in the game.

“It was a tough situation. Our first opener (first batter) got out very early and then I go after that and I just take the responsibility for the batting and made it.”

As for the 69 runs the Kings scored, Brar said, “It was quite an easy target for us.”

Brar was also prominent in the tournament awards, which were as follows:

Man of the Match in the final – Amanpreet Brar (Hawks)

Best Catch of the Tournament – Amanpreet Brar (Hawks)

Best Bowler – Sandeep Dhillon (Hawks)

Best Batsman – Karan Singh (Kings)

MVP of the Tournament – Anubhav Jawla (Kings)
