Firefighters still wrestling with central Yukon blazes

Yukon Wildland Fire Management officials are still struggling with blazes burning in central Yukon.

“The MA-005 and MA-006, which are impacting the North Klondike Highway between Pelly Crossing and Stewart Crossing, have joined, and will be referred to as the Wrong Lake fire, MA-006,” today’s latest update reads.

“The Rudolph Gulch fire (MA-004) is being held as crews put out hot spots inside the fire. An evacuation alert is in place for the area north of the Minto Bridge.”

As of this morning, the highway between Pelly Crossing and Stewart Crossing was briefly open, but was closed as of the early afternoon.

“The Mt. Lewis fire (XY-008) is located in the wilderness zone north of Lake Laberge. Because of its location on a mountain, it is highly visible to boaters and residents, but is not currently threatening any values.”
