Dempster sees second motorcycle accident in a week

The RCMP are investigating the second motorcycle accident in a week on the Dempster Highway near Eagle Plains.

At 6:24 p.m. last Tuesday, the Dawson City detachment received an SOS message from a satellite communicator about a serious motorcycle crash approximately one hour north of Eagle Plains.

“Dawson City officers attended via road in addition with an emergency medical response via helicopter,” police said last Thursday.

“The rider, a 67-year-old male from Michigan, U.S., was airlifted to Dawson City hospital and then to Whitehorse General Hospital.

“Investigators noted that the rider was possibly wearing an airbag system backpack designed for motorcycles. The motorcycle rider later told police this device may have saved his life.”

This collision remains under investigation by Dawson RCMP.

Last week, a Toronto man was killed in a motorcycle collision on the Dempster.
