The City of Whitehorse alerted trail users in the Hillcrest and Granger neighbourhoods this morning about a grizzly bear being seen in the area.
The bear was reported in the Sunset Drive area, heading toward Paddy’s Pond, and was sighted crossing Hamilton Boulevard at Elijah Smith Elementary School.
The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, and the city is recommending anyone on the trails carry bear deterrents with them.
There have been reports of the bear in the area, along with Copper Ridge, over the last couple of days.
There was also a report of a grizzly bear near the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport this morning.
The Department of Education deferred The Yukon Star’s questions about the situation to Yukon Conservation Officers’ Services.
