Some residents of the city’s downtown area should brace for a power outage from 10 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday.

Barring inclement weather, according to ATCO Electric Yukon, the area that will be powered off will include 402-704 Main Street (even), 401 – 611 Steele Street (all), 401-511 Wood Street (odd), 4110 Fourth Avenue, 5110, 5118, 5119 & 5121 Fifth Avenue, and 6118 and 6120 Sixth Avenue.

“The reason for the extended outage is to install taller power poles to allow Northwestel to upgrade their communication infrastructure in the downtown area,” said an ATCO spokesman.

“The work location is on Sixth Avenue, in the area of Wood and Main Street. 

“The duration of the outage is required to remove and re-install the infrastructure and complete all the secondary connections to ensure our crew can complete this as safely and as quickly as possible.”
