Work is continuing at the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport after a recent delay.
According to Yukon government officials, “during an inspection, concerns were identified that required a pause in construction activities on the south end of the project and a review of existing procedures and safeguards. Safety of the public is of the highest importance to the Government of Yukon.
“Upon review, we determined that minor adjustments were required to strengthen existing procedures. While this took place, construction activities on the north side of the project continued. Full construction activities on the project resumed on May 23rd. The runway reconstruction remains on schedule, with no impacts to the construction timeline.”
The airport is receiving a $248-million facelift, including a main runway reconstruction, with money kicked in by both the federal and Yukon governments.
