THE YUKON STAR TO SHINE BRIGHT

Online Publication To Begin After May Long Weekend

The Yukon Star will begin operations Tuesday May 21.

We look forward to serving the Yukon and nearby communities with the best in local news and information -- both online and in a robust weekly print edition.

Five staff coming aboard from the Whitehorse Star will work their first day after the long weekend for the new daily online and weekly print newspaper. New staff are being recruited as well, including journalists and advertising sales representatives, publisher Max Fraser has announced.

First day of online publishing is scheduled for Wednesday May 22.
First edition of the weekly Yukon Star print edition is scheduled for Friday May 31.

The Yukon Star is intended to carry on the tradition of the Whitehorse Star, which is closing May 17 after an historic 124 years, according to Fraser, a local filmmaker and former editor of the Whitehorse Star.

"This will be an independent, locally owned newspaper that publishes daily news online with a daily newsletter for those who want it, and a robust weekly print edition covering and circulating in the entire territory as well as neighbouring communities," he said.

We look forward to serving the community and carrying forward with broad support from readers, financial supporters and advertisers.

Readers can sign up for a daily newsletter below. We expect the newsletter to commence the week of May 28.
